Liners

The key to good performance of a Tube mill/Horizontal mill is the liners. They not only cover the inner shell of the mill, thereby preventing it from damage, but also contribute to higher output as they increase the lift of the grinding media thereby improving the grinding efficiency.

The liners and diaphragms have to be designed in such a manner that they contribute in

  • Minimum downtime of the mill thereby achieving maximum wear life.
  • Easy handle ability and fitment
  • Optimum grinding performance
  • Steady flow of material from feed end to discharge end
  • Low cost by achieving better wear rates for grinding media and itself

The liners and diaphragms are designed and grades selected keeping into considerations various factors such as

Our Mill Questionnaire helps us understand your needs, position and other factors, which will help us design the liners. The liners are supplied in various grades of Hi-chrome, Ni-Hard, Chrome-Moly and Mn Steel. Some of the grades are listed below, however, the finer grades are decided based on above factors, while designing the mill.

Hardness: Hardness is in the range of 37.7 to 47.7 HRc, (350 to 450 BHN) Barring mini cement plants, (which take the liners in Mn Steel), most of the bigger cement plants are using the Hi-Cr liners because of the inherent advantages. SBIPL supplies the complete package of Design, manufacture, supply and installation of complete set of Liners, Diaphragms, Diaphragm Frames, along with necessary fasteners, backing material. The various kinds of liners supplied by SBIPL are Inlet and Discharge Head Liners, First Chamber Shell liner and Second Chamber Shell Liners. The liners are designed in both bolted and boltless/semi-boltless configuration. Liners are preferred to be standardized in 10D (D is diameter of mill in m.) number of rows normally and in such case, we give bolted configuration. If the drilling pattern is not standard, we may design boltless liners too. Liners are also classified by the nature of function they perform. Normally, in the first chamber, lifting liners are provided, which aid the HCGM to lift to maximum, which aids in effective crushing. On the other hand, the function of 2nd chamber is fine grinding, which happens with the process of abrasion. It is a known fact that maximum abrasion/fine grinding happens when a certain size of HCGM is crushing a certain size of material. Thus, classifying liners are suggested in the 2nd chamber, which brings different sizes of HCGM in different sections of the chamber, and as material moves from coarse to fine (from 1st chamber to discharge end), more and more effective grinding takes place.
