Liners

The key to good performance of a Tube mill/Horizontal mill is the liners. They not only cover the inner shell of the mill, thereby preventing it from damage, but also contribute to higher output as they increase the lift of the grinding media thereby improving the grinding efficiency.

The liners and diaphragms have to be designed in such a manner that they contribute in

  • Minimum downtime of the mill thereby achieving maximum wear life.
  • Easy handle ability and fitment
  • Optimum grinding performance
  • Steady flow of material from feed end to discharge end
  • Low cost by achieving better wear rates for grinding media and itself

The liners and diaphragms are designed and grades selected keeping into considerations various factors such as

  • Size of the mill
  • Type and size of grinding media being used
  • Output desired
  • Life guaranteed visa-vi cost
  • Various other mill operating parameters (Please see our mill questionnaire below)

Our Mill Questionnaire helps us understand your needs, position and other factors, which will help us design the liners. The liners are supplied in various grades of Hi-chrome, Ni-Hard, Chrome-Moly and Mn Steel. Some of the grades are listed below, however, the finer grades are decided based on above factors, while designing the mill.

Hardness: Hardness is in the range of 37.7 to 47.7 HRc, (350 to 450 BHN) Most of the power plants take liners in Hi-cr specification. SBIPL has been able to supply liners in Hi-cr to almost all thermal stations in the country and few outside the country too. Most thermal plants in the country have either SKODA design Russian mills or BBD mills from Stein/Alstom, licensed to and supplied by BHEL. In the SKODA design, SBIPL has supplied liners both in completely bolted configuration and semi-boltless configuration. The Hi-Cr liners (coupled with HCGM) have proven 15-20% improvement in output over conventional armour plates (in Mn steel) and Forged balls. This itself is reason enough to compensate for any costs. We have supplied the same to OEM BHEL for it’s various projects all over the country, besides in the after market, to end users.
